We are excited to present the third installment of Headfirst Alumni Spotlight Series designed to highlight the athletic and academic achievements of Headfirst alumni. Whether a Regional Pitcher of the Year on her way to Georgetown or a scholar-athlete set to join Duke’s inaugural softball team, our alumni continue to impress us with the extent of their drive and scope of their accomplishments.
By combining lessons learned on the field with a top level college degree our alumni put themselves in a position to succeed long after their softball careers end.
This week, we feature Colleen Campbell, who’s taking the long cross-country flight from Washington state to join the MIT squad in Cambridge, MA this fall.
COLLEEN CAMPBELL – P, MIT Engineers
School: MIT, Class of 2021
Position: RHP
Honor Roll Camp Attended: Southern California 2016
Bio: A product of the Forest Ridge School and Snoqualmie, WA, Campbell led the joint team from Forest Ridge and Bear Creek High School with 274 strikeouts in 2016 while also serving as the team captain. Despite only carrying 10 total team members, the tight-knit squad completed a run that took them all the way to the 2A State Tournament.
Off the field, Colleen’s high school career was equally impressive. Next month she graduates with a 4.0 GPA and subject awards in both Mathematics and Mandarin. An IB candidate and National Merit Finalist, this school year she completed a detailed analysis on a batter’s chance of making solid contact with a softball pitch under ideal conditions (disclaimer: Colleen in the circle is definitely NOT ideal conditions).
