While some leave camp with a verbal commitment, it’s not the most common outcome. The recruiting process requires follow-up conversations and steps. Coaches need time to make important recruiting decisions, often wanting to see players multiple times or have them visit campus. This timeline allows you to weigh your factors and find the right fit.
A “two-day win” at Honor Roll includes expanding your list of schools, connecting with your target schools, and assessing your position in the recruiting picture. Engaging with coaches at Honor Roll helps you discover more potential fits and offers a unique opportunity to connect directly with coaches. Use this chance to learn where you fit in the college recruiting picture.
After attending Honor Roll, you have a window to follow up with coaches and advance your recruiting process. The key win during this time is to continue conversations and establish next steps. This could involve a verbal commitment, sending academic files for admissions review, or receiving an invite for a visit or prospect camp. Each “no” you receive helps you gather information and find the right fit.
Success in the recruiting process goes beyond labels. Consider the qualities and characteristics of schools to find the best holistic fit. Don’t limit yourself to Division I or specific leagues. Use softball to access the right holistic fit through admissions. As a strong academic student-athlete, your school selection process will be more involved, but it’s worth it. Engage critically and find what fits you at the next level.
